Porting Gnome 2.18 to Debian Etch 4.0r1

After many years i've come up with the determination to port a non-ported release of Gnome to Debian. Since i'm a desktop-freak of sorts. So i've downloaded Garnome for getting the sources and starting the build ... that's the theory so far. It's not really hard work but one has to keep his eyes on the process as it is certainly not hassle-free.

After extracting Garnome to a directory and typing 'make paranoid-install' in the .../desktop/ directory the process starts and works like a breeze *cough* if you're dexterous enough to find out what library or application the process is failing. I hope to write a dependancy script for this part of the process, kind of an installer but different.

So far i've installed a number of lib...-dev packages and others but have not come up with a working Garnome release due to apparently unresolveable dependency issues. A Gstreamer0.10 release of the cdparanoia plugin is definitely not easy to find and i'm embarassed by the way i have to get the sources to build from scratch. But i'll get there.

In the future i'll probably be posting a script or so for future usage, hopefully also by gnome.org
